Regional Workshop on Breaking Down Barriers to Payments: The Evolution of Regulation and Winning Solutions in the Digital Age - 15 June 2022, 13:00 - 16:00 Indochina Time / Bangkok
This regional workshop provides an opportunity to enhance the understanding and knowledge of ESCAP member States on the innovations in payments and regulatory frameworks currently in place across the ESCAP region. The workshop also aims to bring best practices and innovations from across the ESCAP region and offer different approaches and perspectives for public and private sector stakeholders in adapting interoperable payment systems and leveraging digital solutions to support individuals and MSMEs.
Empowering MSMEs to harness opportunities in the transition to sustainable trade and a circular economy in the context of the post-COVID 19 recovery
The objective of the project is to develop and implement capacity-building tools for governments and MSMEs in developing countries and economies in transition to strengthen the resilience of the MSME sector. This will help to facilitate its green, inclusive, and sustainable recovery in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Following the organisation of 5 regional dialogues across the world during the first part of 2021, UNCTAD and the UN Regional Economic Commissions (ECLAC, ESCAP, ESCWA) will bring together representatives and officials of government MSME bodies, as well as competition agency representatives from across the world to discuss how competition policy could support MSMEs post Covid-19.
The Farming as a Business training (FaaB) is centered around the idea that when farming is approached as a business, farmers will have a greater opportunity of increasing their profits, household income, and improving their livelihoods.
ETWs are Empretec’s core product, aiming to foster the motivation and self-confidence of participants who have chosen to start or expand their businesses. It is based on a behavioural approach, designed to develop personal entrepreneurial potential.
The Network is an experience-sharing and coordination mechanism for MSME policymakers in the region. It represents a key two-way communication mechanism between ESCAP and its Member States for ongoing and future work.
Workshops - Policy toolkits to stream MSME formalization and inclusive delivery of formalization services
In partnerships with the Government of The Gambia, the Government of Kenya and UN Country Teams, two workshops were organized on enhancing MSME formalization and its contribution to MSME resilience. The workshops received over 300 participants, including the Vice President of The Gambia, the Senior Advisor of the President of Kenya, policymakers and MSME entrepreneurs. Four reports were also delivered to facilitate the formulation of coherent policy environment conducive for MSME formalization
Regional capacity building events to raise awareness of the role of competition related policies for access to markets in post COVID-19 resurgence of MSMEs
