UNCTAD Competition and Consumer Policies Branch has been implementing a technical cooperation project on Competition policy and SMEs within the United Nations Development Account COVID-19 Response project “Global Initiative towards post-COVID-19 Resurgence of the MSME sector” in cooperation with the five United Nations Regional Economic Commissions (UN-ECLAC, UN-ESCAP, UN-ECA, UN-ECE, UN-ESCWA).
The project’s products and activities include a global report on the interlinkage between competition and MSME policies, 3 national studies on the impact of COVID-19 on specific SME sectors in Brazil, Thailand, and South Africa, 5 regional dialogues and 1 global policy dialogue on how the recommendations from the global report and the three national studies can support the recovery of MSMEs.
On 27 - 28 June 2022, UNCTAD-CCPB presented the three products aimed at facilitating the economic recovery post COVID-19 through enhanced participation of MSMEs in the offline and online marketplaces:
