Workshops - Policy toolkits to stream MSME formalization and inclusive delivery of formalization services

In partnerships with the Government of The Gambia, the Government of Kenya and UN Country Teams, two workshops were organized on enhancing MSME formalization and its contribution to MSME resilience. The workshops received over 300 participants, including the Vice President of The Gambia, the Senior Advisor of the President of Kenya, policymakers and MSME entrepreneurs. Four reports were also delivered to facilitate the formulation of coherent policy environment conducive for MSME formalization
Guidance on core indicators for entity reporting on contribution towards implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (GCI)

E-registration programme in El Salvador

Responding to a request from the Government of El Salvador, the project allowed for the creation of an online single window for MSMEs to register and access digital services, encouraging businesses formalization. Launched in June 2020, using a platform that can be configured for different countries, Cuentamype.org allows entrepreneurs to register their companies online - eliminating the previous cumbersome task of having to queue at multiple government offices.

The webinars aimed at raising awareness of the role of entrepreneurship policies in the MSME resurgence and of UNCTAD's Entrepreneurship Policy Framework.
Bridging gaps between theory and practice is essential to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. To this end, public policies are the formal means for landing obligations embeded in legal frameworks, as well as those voluntary commitments from different sources at the national and international level. Policies allow the cohesion and articulation of strategies to undertake concrete actions with impact on the collective welfare.
